BSPA Holds Biennial General Meeting 2025, Elects Executive Committee for 2026–27
Dhaka, Bangladesh, May 10, 2026: The Biennial General Meeting 2025 and Election for the 2026–27 terms of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) were held on Saturday, May 09, 2026 at the Dutch-Bangla Bank Auditorium of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA). A total of 144 members attended the meeting, which was presided over by outgoing BSPA President Rejwan uz Zaman.During the AGM, BSPA also honored four veteran sports journalists and writers by awarding them Life Membership of the association. The recipients are Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Azam Mahmood, Salim Nazrul Hoque and Matiur Rahman Chowdhury in recognition of their longstanding contributions to sports journalism in Bangladesh.
Chief Election Commissioner Mofakkharul Islam Dilkhosh announced the results during the second session of the program. As 19 nomination papers were submitted against 19 posts, all candidates were elected unopposed. Rejwan uz Zaman was re-elected as President, while Sudipta Ahmed Ananda was elected General Secretary. The two Vice Presidents elected are Talha Bin Nazrul and Abu Noman Md. Ullah. The Joint General Secretaries are Faisal Muhammad Titumir and Sajid Mustahid. Shahjahan Kabir was elected Treasurer, while A K M Faizul Islam became Organizing Secretary. Mohammad Masuk Mia was re-elected Office Secretary and Raihan Uddin Russell was elected Sports and Cultural Secretary. The nine Executive Members elected are Khairul Islam Shaheen, Parag Arman, Kazi Shahidul Alam, Mia Rafiqul Islam, Tanjim Ahmed, Rashida Afzalun Nesa, Mahfuzul Islam, Navil Elahi Khan and Shamsul Arefin Khan.
Election Commission members Yahia Munna and Rahenur Islam were also present during the announcement of the results. Speaking after being re-elected, BSPA President Rejwan uz Zaman said the organization would continue working for the professional development and welfare of sports journalists across the country. “Our main goal is to improve the standards of sports journalism and increase facilities and opportunities for our members. We have tried to do that over the past two years and want to continue that continuity in the coming term as well,” he said. He also expressed his ambition to establish a Sports Journalist Institute under BSPA in the future.
Newly elected General Secretary Sudipta Ahmed Ananda thanked the members for placing their trust in him once again. “We always work for the professional development of sports journalists. Maintaining the positive momentum created by previous committees will be our biggest challenge,” he said. Outgoing General Secretary Md. Samon Hossain, who served the organization for 14 years in different capacities, highlighted several initiatives taken during his tenure, including workshops and other activities.
