ACLEliteFinal – Players to Watch

AIPS ASIA News:

Jeddah: Al Ahli Saudi FC and Kawasaki Frontale will meet in the final of the AFC Champions League Elite™ Finals Jeddah 2025 with pivotal battles expected across the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium pitch on Saturday.
Al Ahli’s challenge will be spearheaded by Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino but several other players have played key roles in taking the side from Saudi Arabia to within touching distance of a first AFC Champions League Elite title.

Frontale also have several individuals who have come to the fore for the Japanese side at Jeddah 2025 and the-AFC.com highlights three players from each team who could help make a difference in the final.

Al Ahli Saudi FC (KSA)

Galeno
Having only joined the club in the January transfer window, the former FC Porto forward has added a new dimension to Al Ahli’s game with his direct running and pace on the left.
Since scoring his first AFC Champions League Elite goal against Qatar’s Al Gharafa SC on Matchday Eight, Galeno has not looked back – adding two more goals and three assists, including the opener in the semi-final win over Al Hilal SFC.
Ivan Toney
The English forward has thrived since making his move from Brentford to Al Ahli, scoring 27 goals in 38 matches for the Jeddah-based club – including six in the AFC Champions League Elite.
Toney’s strength and aerial capabilities will put Frontale’s centre-back pairing of Kota Takai and Yuichi Maruyama to the test with the 29-year-old also happy to drop deep and play his part in Al Ahli’s buildup play.
Ziyad Aljohani
Doesn’t get mentioned as often as some of his more illustrious teammates but Aljohani is a vital asset in Matthias Jaissle’s side with his role at the base of the midfield allowing the likes of Franck Kessie and Firmino to operate freely higher up the pitch.
Part of the Saudi Arabia side that reached the quarter-finals of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024™, Aljohani is now a firmly established member of the Al Ahli side with his reading of the game crucial to nullify Frontale’s movement.

Kawasaki Frontale (JPN)

Marcinho
Marcinho has been a pivotal figure for Kawasaki Frontale since joining in 2021, helping the club win their fourth J.League title. The Brazilian winger achieved more success in 2024 with Frontale lifting the Japan Super Cup.
In the League Stage of the AFC Champions League Elite, the 29-year-old found the back of the net three times before starring with a goal and an assist against China PR’s Shanghai Shenhua in the Round of 16. Marcinho was also on target in their 3-2 defeat of Qatar’s Al Sadd in the quarter-finals.
Yuki Yamamoto
Yuki Yamamoto joined Kawasaki Frontale from Gamba Osaka in 2024. While his primary role is as a defensive midfielder, the 27-year-old delivers when it matteres as evidenced by his goal and assist against China PR’s Shandong Taishan in the League Stage.

Yamamoto has shown the ability to contribute to the attack, helping break down Qatar Al Sadd SC’s defence to set up the opening goal in their 3-2 quarter-final win.
Erison
Since joining Kawasaki Frontale in 2024, Brazilian forward Erison has raked in 10 goals from 34 appearances.
His physical presence and goal-scoring ability make him a key player in Frontale’s offensive lineup. Erison has been a consistent performer, scoring in the League Stage against Australia’s Central Coast Mariners and Pohang Steelers of the Korea Republic.
Erison continued to shine with goals against China PR’s Shanghai Shenhua in the Round of 16 before adding to his tally with a strike against Qatar’s Al Sadd in the quarter-finals.
