Professional Sports Journalists’ Association of Sri Lanka elects new set of office bearers for two-year term
COLOMBO, July 24, 2025 – Sameera Peiris has taken over as the President of the Professional Sports Journalists Association of Sri Lanka (PSJASL) for the 2025-2027 period.
A dynamic force in the world of sports media, Peiris brings years of experience as a passionate and accomplished sports photojournalist. Known for his unwavering dedication, eye for detail, and deep understanding of the game, he has captured some of the most iconic moments in Sri Lankan sports history.
As President, Sameera Peiris will continue to champion the values of integrity, professionalism, and unity within the sports journalism community. His leadership is focused on uplifting fellow journalists, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that the voices of sports media professionals are recognized and respected across the industry.
Under his guidance, the association is evolving into a strong, united body that advocates for fair opportunities, ethical reporting, and the celebration of excellence in sports journalism.
Yohan Basura of Lankadeepa Newspaper was appointed as the secretary of the association.
Namal Pathirage (Lankadeepa), Lahiru Harshana (Lankadeepa), Pathum Shri Wijerathne (Monara TV) and Oshitha Warakapitiya (Ada Newspaper) were elected as vice presidents of the association.
- Ramakrishnan of Capital FM was appointed as the Treasurer with Prasad Senadeera of Rangiri Sri Lanka elected as the National Organizer of the association.
Gamitha Dehipitiya of Monara Newspaper has been appointed as the assistant secretary while Buddhika Gamlath of SL Sports was elected as the assistant treasurer.
Thirteen members were appointed as the executive committee members.
Susanthi Premachandra (SLRC), Jayamal Chandrasiri (Lankadeepa), Sampath C. Perera (LN Sports), Nuwan Amarawansha (Mawbima), Seewali Ediriweera (Capital FM), Dinesh S. Perera (ITN), Wasantha Niroshan (Swarnavahini), Sudarshana Peiris (ThePapare.com), Ishan Sanjeewa (Aruna), Suminda Jayasekara (TV Derana), Sureshi Gunasekara (SLRC), Kamal Sujeewa (SLBC) and Lahiru Dushmantha (Hiru TV) were the appointed executive committee members.
Having been formed in 2017, PSJASL is the largest collective of sports media professionals in the country focusing on uplifting the professional standards of the sports media community while strengthening ties with international organizations and promoting the welfare of sports journalists of the country.
