We want to set a standard for Australian football, says Otto

AIPS ASIA News:

Wuhan: Taylor Otto is relishing the opportunity of being part of Melbourne City’s historic campaign in the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25, as the Australian side prepares to square off against China PR’s Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC in Saturday’s final.

Now within touching distance of the title, Otto is hopeful of successfully making the best of the hard work of the backroom staff and their extensive, meticulous preparations.
“We have been preparing for a while, and the coaches have given us a lot of information that we are keen to implement on the field in the final,” said Otto. “Of course, Wuhan are a great team and we have a lot of respect for them, but we are a very good team too.

“So, I am expecting a good final game, and we are all quite excited for it. It’s important that we’re all on the same page and doing everything we can to ensure we nullify all the offensive threats that come our way.”
The defender also noted the significance of Shelby McMahon’s 94th-minute goal, which sealed their semi-final win against Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women’s FC in regulation time, allowing the team more time to recover.
“I think we’re recovering well, and thanks to Shelby’s efforts, we didn’t have to play extra time, which has been really helpful,” said the 25-year-old.
Moreover, despite being challenged with facing a side that will enjoy home advantage,  Otto is embracing the test, welcoming the prospect of a passionate crowd, regardless of who it is for.
“I think as players, we just love a crowd, no matter who it is for. It is just incredible to play in front of fans, even if it is for a different team, and I think the energy can only help us perform better,” said the Ohio-born.

“It is an honour to be in the sport, and winning anything is really hard to do in your career, and that is all we are constantly striving for.
“If we emerge champions, it would be setting a standard for the club as well as for Australian football, so we really hope we can do that for the country.”
