Buriev: Olympic qualification a huge achievement for Uzbekistan
The victory ensured that Uzbekistan will make their debut in Paris later this year and progress was achieved in style as the 2018 champions picked up a fifth win in as many games without conceding a single goal.
In reaching the final, Uzbekistan became only the second team to do so thrice and also do it in back to back editions – both records shared with Saudi Arabia.
With 14 goals scored so far at Qatar 2024, they have equaled the record for most goals by a team in a single edition, set by Japan in 2016, while their overall tally of 56 is the most by any team in tournament history.

The Central Asians, defeated in the 2022 final, will now face Japan in the finale on Friday as they aim to become the first team to win the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ twice and Buriev declared that they would give their all.
“We dedicate our victory tonight to our fans and people and while we achieved our first target, we still have a final to prepare for,” he said. “Indonesia also played very well but we won this match and we will (do our best to) prepare for the final next.”
