Nematov wins Best Goalkeeper award

Doha: Uzbekistan’s Abduvakhid Nematov was named as the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024™ Best Goalkeeper after a sterling campaign for the Central Asian side.
The 23-year-old custodian kept a clean sheet in four of the five matches he appeared in but suffered heartbreak in the final as Uzbekistan were beaten 1-0 by Japan on Friday.

Nematov, who plays his club football with FC Nasaf, was in Uzbekistan’s starting lineup for their opening Group D tie against Malaysia, which the Central Asian side won 2-0.
Rested for the 5-0 Matchday Two triumph against Kuwait, Nematov was back between the posts for the final Group D encounter against Vietnam, which Uzbekistan won 3-0.

He played a crucial role in the knockout stage, with Uzbekistan defeating defending champions Saudi Arabia in the quarter-finals.
Nematov was again rock solid in the semi-finals, as Uzbekistan saw off the challenge of Indonesia to advance to their third AFC U23 Asian Cup final in four editions.
