A spectacle of unity and celebration
The ceremony began with a stirring cultural performance that traced the history and vision of the Games — from their inception in 2005 to their return to Saudi Arabia two decades later. The scene then soared as 2,000 drones danced across the night sky, painting vibrant shapes that celebrated peace, solidarity and the host nation’s heritage. ISSA+1
Following the visual display, the Parade of Nations commenced. All 57 participating countries of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) entered the stadium together, each delegation proudly carrying its national flag and wearing distinctive uniforms, amid enthusiastic cheers from the crowd. Speech by the Chief Guest
The key address was delivered by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al‑Faisal, Minister of Sport, President of the Saudi Olympic & Paralympic Committee and President of ISSA. His words struck a tone of cultural affirmation, regional solidarity and sporting ambition:
“Today, we celebrate the return of the Islamic Solidarity Games to their birthplace – the very place where they first began twenty years ago. Together, we continue the journey of unity and cooperation among the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.” ISSA
“Since its establishment, ISSA has taken significant steps in promoting the values of solidarity, strengthening relations among member countries, empowering youth, and presenting a positive image of our Ummah on the international stage.” ISSA
“With steady determination we position the Islamic Solidarity Games as a global model of excellence in sports organization. We consider this edition a launching point for upcoming programs aimed at supporting and developing the sports movement in our member countries.” ISSA+1
His speech reinforced the dual focus: celebrating shared cultural and religious heritage, while raising the bar for performance, organisation and regional cooperation.
Looking ahead
As the ceremony concluded with the energetic official song of the Games, the sense of anticipation was palpable. Two weeks of intense competition now await — in which athletes will not only seek medals but also the honour of being ambassadors of solidarity, friendship and cultural understanding. ISSA+1
The host city Riyadh stands ready, with world-class infrastructure and a renewed commitment to showcasing the Islamic world’s sporting talent and collaborative spirit.
