Astana set to host 2027 World Table Tennis Championships
ASTANA, May 28, 2025 – The 2027 World Table Tennis Championships will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan. This decision was made after the results of a vote conducted at the General Assembly of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
Initially, the candidates for hosting the 2027 World Championships were the USA, France and Kazakhstan. In the first round, the US was eliminated. In the second round of voting, Kazakhstan beat France (54.68% versus 45.32%).
Thus, Astana will become the host city of the 2027 World Championships. For the first time in history, this tournament will be held in Kazakhstan.
In addition, the countries that will host the 2028 and 2029 World Championships have been determined. In 2028, the Japanese city of Fukuoka will host the World Championships, and in 2029, the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
Previously, Astana hosted the Asian Table Tennis Championships in 2024 and the Seamaster ITTF World Tour Grand Finals in 2017.
As is known, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is a big fan of ping pong. For a long time, he headed the Table Tennis Federation of Kazakhstan.
