Jeonbuk State, in collaboration with the Jeonbuk State Office of Education and Jeonbuk Physicl Education Middle & High School, is continuing international exchange and friendship through sports by delivering sports equipment donated by students to youth in three African nations. On the 5th, the State and the Office of Education held a send-off ceremony at Jeonbuk Sports Middle & High School for the project titled “Re; Play Together, Jeonbuk Sports Friendship Gifts,” shipping the items to Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Namibia. The theme, ‘Re; Play Together,’ signifies resuming games (Re; Play) that had been halted due to a shortage of soccer balls and sports gear, this time together with Jeonbuk.

This initiative goes beyond mere material support; it aims to practice solidarity and friendship across borders through sports and to expand the foundation for exchange among future generations. In particular, sharing equipment that students actually used spreads the value of sharing while extending Jeonbuk’s international sports diplomacy into schools and the local community. The project originated from visits last year by officials from Zimbabwe and Namibia, with whom Jeonbuk has maintained international sports exchanges. During their visit to Jeonbuk Sports Middle & High School, they requested support for sports equipment. Students readily agreed to contribute, leading to a broader international exchange program supported by the State, the Office of Education, and the school. The donated items total 616 pieces across 12 sports, including soccer, taekwondo, shooting, archery, swimming, etc. —comprising both gear previously used by students and new items collected for this project. The equipment will be delivered to the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and National Olympic Committees of each country via Zimbabwean diplomatic missions and international shipping. It will then be distributed to young athletes and youth active in organizations such as the Kirsty Coventry Academy in Zimbabwe, the Waitaka Taekwondo Club in Kenya, and the MTC Hopsol Youth Soccer League in Namibia.

Kim Jong-phil, Director General of Jeonbuk State’s 2036 Summer Olympics Bid Department, stated: “I hope the precious sports items that nurtured the dreams of our Jeonbuk students will serve as a new source of hope for African youth. Moving forward, we will continue to promote international exchange through sports, guided by the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) core values of inclusion and solidarity.” Im Young-gun, Director of Arts, Physical Ed & Health Division at the Jeonbuk State Office of Education, said, “It was a meaningful opportunity for our students to put into practice the spirit of sportsmanship through sharing and caring while developing a global perspective. We hope that the students’ small but heartfelt gesture will be warmly received by young people in Africa.”

Meanwhile, Jeonbuk State has been steadily expanding its international sports network by dispatching a Taekwondo demonstration team to the World Taekwondo U-21 Championship in Kenya, participating in the World Union of Olympic Cities General Assembly, and broadening sports exchanges with African nations. Starting with the “Sports Friendship Gift” pilot project, Jeonbuk State plans to consider expanding the countries and sports covered by the initiative, while also promoting the hosting of international sporting events and exchange programs inviting young athletes from overseas, with the goal of developing Jeonbuk into a specialized international sports city.

OCAC underlines importance of world-class #AsianCup2027 delivery standards

Riyad, October 24, 2025: With just under 450 days to go to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™, the Organising Committee of AFC Asian Cup (OCAC) has today praised the meticulous planning undertaken to stage the best edition of the Continent’s premier men’s competition, which will be held in the Kingdom from January 7 to February 5. Leading the fourth OCAC meeting in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Chairperson Mariano V. Araneta, Jr. underlined his confidence in the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to set new benchmarks of excellence across all areas. Members of the Committee received a comprehensive update from the LOC on the key milestones and deliverables leading up to the tournament and were pleased to note the commendable developments achieved thus far to stage a spectacular event for all stakeholders.

Chairperson Mariano V. Araneta, Jr. said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is rapidly emerging as amongst the leading destinations not only for football, but also for global sport and credit must go to the strong leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for delivering on its bold vision. “This will be the first time that the Kingdom will host Asia’s premier men’s national team competition and from the infrastructure preparations as well as the vibrant calendar of events in the pipeline, it is clear that the foundations are now firmly in place to deliver a truly historic edition in 2027.” Members of the Committee were impressed by the progress of the top-class venues poised to welcome Asia’s elite with Riyadh’s King Saud University Stadium and Kingdom Arena already in operation and the Al Shabab Stadium also close to adhering to the AFC’s requirements. Meanwhile, the capital’s two remaining venues, the King Fahd Sports City – which will be inspected by Chairperson Araneta on Thursday – and the Al Imam University Stadium are expected to be fully operational by November 2026.
Similarly, in Jeddah, the iconic King Abdullah Sports City and the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium are both operationally ready, while in the third host city, the Al Khobar Stadium is expected to be completed by June next year.

Chairperson Araneta added: “The LOC’s attention to detail has been truly remarkable and on behalf of the OCAC, I want to express our gratitude to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ LOC and the SAFF for their steadfast commitment to delivering a world-class showpiece.” The Committee also approved the latest version of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ Competition Regulations, with the amendment to allow all 26 players in the final registration to be eligible for each match amongst the most notable enhancements.
Finally, the Committee received updates on the with a final decision on the selection of the hosts anticipated by 2027.
